8/18 HyDrive Late Models results
Aug 21, 2012
The day started off with more excitement in the air than normal. Four classes were scheduled to race, and what races they would be. Qualifying was some of the closest times of the season. The Figure 8 class saw Butch Hegel set fast time with a 19.27, but the main event was all Dean Hegel Sr. and Billy Swift. Brandon McNamee broke an axle and Billy Swift hit the wheel and tire head on, and for the 2nd race in a row Swift was completely airborne! However, Swift’s car was not hurt too bad as he took the lead spot in the main event, but with one lap to go, it was Dean Hegel Sr. who powered his way by Swift and took the win. In the Hobby stock class Reesen Tarr set fast time with a 15.860! The main event was just as exciting as Reesen and his brother Brenden Tarr raced through the field to 1st and 2nd spots. The two brothers then raced side by side for the lead for 10 laps, but it was Brenden beating Reesen to the start finish line by only 2 feet. Joey Bird set fast time in the Baby Grands with a 14.366. The Baby Grand racing was side by side all night long. Bird edged out Trayten Tarr for the Trophy Dash Win, beating him by a nose. The main event looked like it belonged to Mike Hilliker, but a with one lap to go, Nicole Behar made an awesome move pulling up to be side by side with Hilliker, and that was how they finished, side by side with Behar taking first place. The HyDrive Late Models had 12 cars tow in, but Larry Todd experienced more bad luck with an engine failure just before qualifying. It was Handy Andy Brown on the pole with a 14.254. The main event saw battles all through the field, but up front was Nicole Behar and Andy Brown. The audience thought that Brown was patiently waiting for the right moment to put a veteran move on 14 year old Behar, but with 6 laps to go Brown and Behar caught some lap traffic and ended up side by side. It was then Behar who made what looked like a veteran move pulling back out in front of Brown and earning her first Late Model win in the Dr. Pepper 50. None of her team would sleep Saturday night as the entire evening was spent celebrating by drinking Dr. Pepper and Sun Drop.
