Bill Slayden from North Pole, AK came to Stateline Speedway twice during July 2013. When asked about the primary purpose of his visits Slayden stated, “I was here to drive race cars and watch racing. I had a great time doing both.” However, Slayden also went on to say, “I’m pleased to announce to you that we’ve completed a purchase agreement that brings Larry Bertrand in as an owner of the LLC that owns Stateline Speedway. This makes Larry Bertrand an owner of Stateline Speedway and my partner.” The transfer of Bertrand’s shares of the company was completed on July 1, 2013. Bertrand has been the general manager and promoter since January of 2012.
Slayden, age 66, enjoys traveling to race tracks and racing cars all over North America. Slayden has brought back ideas and experiences to make improvements to Stateline Speedway but insists that, “Stateline Speedway is a much friendlier place than the other tracks. The staff is very caring and courteous. I have had a much better experience in the small track atmosphere, and have had my best experiences over the last year at Stateline.”
Slayden credits Bertrand and his team for providing a quality experience for the racers, support crew, and fans. When Bertrand was asked about how he feels about becoming an owner, he said, “Operating a race track is a lot of work, but seriously, what is more fun than working at a race track and racing school.” Bertrand paused with a big smile and said, “We have a number one staff here and being able to work with these people is truly what makes this a great career.” When asked about working with Slayden, Bertrand stated, “Having the opportunity to have met Bill (Slayden) is one of the largest blessings of my life. Bill and I have a very similar personality… I hope he does not mind me saying that.” Bertrand laughed, “Bill (Slayden) is the smartest person I have ever met and having the opportunity to work with him and continue to learn from him is more than I could ever ask for.”
Slayden and Bertrand both mentioned the Stateline Speedway Racing School several times, and when specifically asked about it Slayden said, “The Stateline Speedway Racing School is an integral part of Stateline Speedway and will continue to operate as long as the speedway operates. I truly enjoy how the racing school offers corporate groups a chance to participate in our school in a group setting.” Bertrand said, “Our racing school’s corporate parties are second to none. We have businesses from all over the country that come here to the Coeur d’Alene / Spokane area to have their corporate party or retreat here, because there is just not really anything available that compares to this.” Slayden and Bertrand said that the parties start at only $1,200.
Both Slayden and Bertrand are excited about the potential Stateline Speedway has for the future. “We have a long term vision that involves the next 15 -20 years.” said Slayden.
